About this series
"Woman, Life, Freedom" is a collection of 100 works that has been started since 2022. It initially started as a tribute to the slogan of the protests throughout all parts of Iran after the killing of Mahsa Amini by morality police.
Women have had a great and important role in the revolutionary acts in Iran. They have been using different methods for showing their demonstration. One of the symbolic acts by them was cutting their hair to demonstrate their sympathy based on a mythical Iranian tradition dated more than a thousand years ago. This act became a global movement of solidarity for women's freedom.
I want to revive the memories of about one hundred legendary and influential women of culture, science and politics from Iran and the world, and also women who had become victims of the Islamic Regime, either directly or indirectly. All these women are significant role models for those who strive to make their own way in life and work these days.
In this series, hands that are cutting the hair were added to the portraits through the art of handmade collage. All the materials were printed with a basic printer. It was important for me that the final work would remind the observer of the texture of a newspaper.
